Mailbox.orgIndie

German privacy mail with a real Office suite bundled

[01] Verdict

Mailbox.org is a Berlin-based, privacy-respecting host run since 1989 (originally as JPBerlin). The Light plan is €1/month for 2GB and is mail-only; Standard at €3/month (~$3.20) bumps to 10GB plus 5GB drive storage and the OX App Suite Office (docs, sheets, presentations).

100% renewable energy, German jurisdiction with strong data law, and full PGP support including their browser-based Guard encryption. Custom domains work on Standard and above.

Weaknesses: the OX webmail is functional but dated, and there's no native mobile app — you use CalDAV/CardDAV/IMAP. Calendar invites to Google/Outlook users occasionally trip up on free/busy info.
