Swiss end-to-end encrypted mail, free tier is real

[01] Verdict

Alright, so here's the deal with Proton Mail. If you're paranoid about your email privacy (and honestly, who ain't these days?), Proton's got your back with that Swiss end-to-end encryption game. They don't just talk about it, they deliver. Even the free tier is solid with 1GB of space, but if you need more room and fancy features like custom domains, the Mail Plus plan is $3.99 a month and stays at that price. No trickery here.

The big selling point? Proton can't read your mail, period. Even if the cops come knocking with a subpoena, you're still good. Just remember, only full end-to-end encryption if you're talking to other Proton users. With outsiders, it's more like encryption-lite, but still better than most.

Now, Proton ain't perfect. If you're trying to get IMAP going, you gotta use their Proton Bridge app, which is a pain if you're a Linux or server kind of person. And heads up, searching through encrypted mail might feel like dial-up speeds. But if you want to throw in Calendar and Drive, you gotta jump to Unlimited for $9.99 a month. Not the cheapest if you're eyeing Migadu or Posteo, but for the peace of mind, it's worth considering.
