BluehostNewfold

Newfold's flagship, with the bait-and-switch to match

Bluehost is owned by Newfold Digital — same parent as Bluehost, HostGator, iPage, Domain.com, and more.See ownership map →
[01] Verdict

Bluehost is like the poster child for Newfold Digital's empire, and they got the bait-and-switch game down. They pull you in with that $3.99 monthly intro like it's all good, but once those 36 months are up, you're looking at $13.99 a month. That's over three times what you started with, and ain't nobody happy about that surprise.

Now, they like to flaunt that "recommended by WordPress.org" badge, but don't get it twisted. That's more about money changing hands than any real technical vote of confidence. Performance-wise, it's whatever, nothing to write home about. And if you need support, brace yourself for offshore scripts that sound like they read off a playbook.

The upsells are wild too. They got everything pre-checked at checkout, so if you ain't paying attention, you're clicking your way into a bigger bill. Real talk, Bluehost is a classic example of a big company squeezing out renewals and cutting costs. If you go in knowing the catch, cool, but watch your back.
